Party Bandimals is a fun, punny, quirky 2-4 player game,
created by couple Cara & Brian from Glass Shoe Games. In this game you play
the role of a Band Manager competing against other Band Managers to create the
ultimate band. Party Bandimals will only take you minutes to learn but give you
hours and hours of enjoyment while playing. This will be a great gateway or
filler game.
The game consist of 3 types of cards to play. Good band
members which add points to your overall total, bad band members which deduct
points from your overall total and action cards, which could affect the game of
everyone playing. The goal of the game is to be the first to assemble a band
worth at least 11 points. Simple right? Well maybe not as simple as you might
think.
While you and your opponents are all playing good band
members to increase your own band score, you are all also playing bad members
against each other to decrease the scores of each other. To throw a few
spanners in the works, action cards can be played by anyone resulting in
multiple things that can and will affect one or all players in the game.
The game starts off with everyone drawing 3 cards, if anyone
draws any ‘Play When Drawn’ cards, they should discard them immediately and
re-draw. The player who last played an instrument will be the first to take
their turn.
On your turn, draw cards until you have 4 in your hand, and
play 1 card if you have one that can be played (sometimes you won’t). If you
draw a ‘Play When Drawn’ card, it must be the card you play. If you play a good
band member, place it in front of you in your band. If you decide to play a bad
band member, place it in front of one of your opponents in their band. When you
play an action card, read the text out loud and follow the instructions on the
card.
There are cards in the game that can only be played on your
opponents’ turn, which is why you sometimes won’t be able to play a card on
your turn. If you reach the end of the deck and no-one has reached 11 points,
the Band Manager with the highest points is the winner.
What I really like about the game, besides the fun that can
be had while playing, is the art style and theme. Personified animals playing
musicals instruments to form a band is, in my opinion, really cool and a great
theme for a pocket game like this. The art is colourful and fun, which is what
initially caught my eye and drew my attention to the game.
Overall, I would say this is a great game and will be played
often in my household.
